Job summary

Marks Sattin Ltd in Tewkesbury is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join the Finance team, focusing on payroll administration and financial accounting. The role offers a hybrid arrangement with 1 day WFH and the chance to contribute to accurate payroll processing and reporting.

You will manage weekly and monthly payrolls, handle payroll queries, complete GL journals, and support audits and VAT/compliance tasks, working closely with HR and operations to maintain strong controls.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll, finance or accounting environments.
• Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive data.
• Proficient with Excel and MS Office tools.

Responsibilities

• Ownership and completion of weekly and monthly payrolls, including the Time & Attendance system.
• Processing payroll-related queries and ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance.
• Completion of associated general ledger journals.
• Production of monthly headcount and people-related reporting.
• Recharging of costs within the Group.
• Performing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances.
• Assisting with VAT returns and Corporation Tax reporting where applicable.
• Supporting annual stocktakes and audits.

Payroll Officer

Tewkesbury - 1 day WFH

£35,000

Our Tewkesbury manufacturing client is seeking an experienced finance professional to join the Finance team in a role that will have a strong focus on payroll administration and financial accounting.

This position would suit an individual who has previous experience working within a payroll, finance, or accounting environment and is looking to develop their career within a dynamic manufacturing business. The successful candidate will take ownership of key payroll processes while supporting financial reporting, controls, and compliance activities.

Working closely with Finance, HR, and operational teams, you will play a critical role in ensuring payroll accuracy, maintaining financial controls, and supporting the delivery of timely and accurate financial information.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ownership and completion of weekly and monthly payrolls, including management of the Time & Attendance system.
• Processing payroll-related queries and ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance.
• Completion of associated general ledger journals.
• Production of monthly headcount and people-related reporting.
• Recharging of costs within the Group.
• Performing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating variances.
• Assisting with the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns.
• Analysing expenditure for Corporation Tax reporting requirements.
• Supporting annual stocktakes.
• Assisting with internal and external audits.
• Identifying opportunities to improve payroll and finance processes.

Candidate profile

The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role and ideally be AAT qualified and/or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA or similar. You will also have:

• A good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft packages.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to offer a high level of customer service and build strong working relationships with internal customers.
• Ability to retain and not share confidential information
• Be efficient, proactive, self-motivated, highly organised with good attention to detail.
• Numerical accuracy and understand the importance of confidentiality.
