Job summary

Trial Balance Consulting in Plymouth is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to own the end-to-end payroll function for a group of four companies, across 300-350 staff.

You will manage weekly, monthly, and night-shift runs, submit RTI to HMRC by deadlines, process pensions under auto-enrolment, post journals, and keep records compliant with GDPR.

A strong Excel user with Sage 50 Payroll is essential; CIPP qualification or equivalent is advantageous.

Payroll Officer Plymouth - £30,000 - £35,000 - Full time - Permanent

I'm working with a well-established organisation based in Plymouth that is looking for a dependable and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to take ownership of the payroll function across a group of four companies.

This is a dedicated payroll role with real variety, covering a diverse mix of weekly, monthly and night shift payrolls for a combined workforce of 300 to 350 employees.

Responsibilities will include:

• Managing and processing end to end payrolls across four separate group entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness at every stage.
• Submitting Real Time Information to HMRC in line with statutory deadlines and processing pension contributions in compliance with auto enrolment requirements.
• Generating and posting payroll journals to the finance system and maintaining payroll records in accordance with GDPR and company policies.
• Resolving payroll queries from employees and internal stakeholders with professionalism and discretion.

The ideal candidate will have solid end to end payroll experience and be comfortable managing multiple payroll runs independently. Proficiency with Sage 50 Payroll or a similar payroll software is essential, alongside strong Excel skills and a good working knowledge of timekeeping systems. A CIPP qualification or experience working across multiple legal entities would be a distinct advantage, though candidates who are qualified by experience are equally encouraged to apply.
