Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately and on time, including salaries, overtime, bonuses and salary adjustments.
  • Calculate and process deductions such as PAYE, National Insurance and pension contributions.
  • Administer statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP) and other payments.
  • Prepare payroll-related documentation and HMRC forms as required.
  • Process records for new starters and leavers with accurate documentation.
  • Resolve payroll queries and discrepancies professionally and promptly.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with legislation and procedures.
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage payroll-related paperwork, filing and electronic records.
  • Support continuous improvement within payroll processes and systems.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.

Job Purpose

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organised Payroll Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll while delivering excellent service to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process payroll accurately and on time, including salaries, overtime, bonuses and salary adjustments.
  • Calculate and process statutory and voluntary deductions, including PAYE, National Insurance and pension contributions.
  • Administer statutory payments, including Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP) and other relevant payments.
  • Prepare and issue payroll-related documentation and HMRC forms as required.
  • Process payroll records for new starters and leavers, ensuring all relevant documentation is completed accurately.
  • Resolve payroll queries and discrepancies in a professional and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and company procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Manage payroll-related paperwork, filing and electronic records.
  • Support continuous improvement within payroll processes and systems.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role of Payroll Officer.
Person Specification

The post-holder will be expected to:

  • Undertake relevant training for personal and career development.
  • Be a self-starter.
  • Have strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Be able to associate with the long‑term vision of the firm.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have strong IT skills.
  • Experience using payroll software and a good understanding of UK payroll legislation, including PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions and statutory payments, would be advantageous.
