Job summary

Alexander Mae is recruiting a Payroll Manager for a 12-month fixed-term contract in Bristol. The role leads the end-to-end UK payroll, ensuring timely and accurate payments and compliance with HMRC rules, with support to a small team.

You'll partner with HR and Finance, drive process improvements, and manage relationships with payroll providers. Hybrid working and a competitive benefits package are on offer.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing end-to-end UK payroll.
• Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and compliance.
• Experience leading or supervising a payroll team.
• Experience with payroll reconciliations, controls and process improvement.
• Excellent Excel and payroll systems experience.
• Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships.
• Recognised payroll qualification or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage the monthly UK payroll across multiple payrolls.
• Ensure compliance with HMRC, PAYE, NI, pensions, and year-end processes.
• Lead payroll reconciliations, controls and audits.
• Develop and improve payroll processes and documentation.
• Manage relationships with payroll providers and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with HR and Finance to ensure accurate payroll data.
• Respond to employee payroll queries professionally.
• Produce payroll reporting and analysis for decision-making.
• Lead, coach and develop a small payroll team.
