Job description

BAM UK&I is seeking an experienced payroll manager to oversee our payroll functions.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join our People Services team on an initial 18-month FTC.

Your mission

In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for managing the entire payroll process, ensuring full compliance with UK legislation and internal standards. You will lead and develop a small payroll team, work with existing manual processes, and identify opportunities to streamline or automate tasks.

The successful candidate will confidently handle complex and escalated issues, working cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and other departments to ensure efficient payroll operations.

Experience with payroll systems such as ePayfact and iTrent is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead accurate and timely payroll delivery for BAM UK employees, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and support the payroll team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Work within existing manual processes while seeking continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll issues, ensuring effective resolution with minimal impact.
  • Maintain accurate employee records, including new starters, leavers, and contractual changes.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external partners to integrate payroll with broader business operations.
  • Process statutory requirements like tax, NIC, pensions, RTI submissions, and P11Ds.
  • Prepare payroll reports for internal stakeholders and support external audits as needed.
Who are we looking for?
  • Significant experience in payroll leadership with proven team management skills.
  • Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation, statutory payments, and compliance.
  • Experience working with automated and manual payroll processes.
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., ePayfact and iTrent) is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for resolving complex payroll issues.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communicator able to engage across departments.
  • Highly organized with good prioritization skills and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to travel frequently to the Camberley office.
