Job summary

Marks Sattin Ltd in Salford is seeking a Payroll Manager to manage end-to-end payroll operations on a 15-month fixed-term maternity cover. The role focuses on accurate payroll delivery, HMRC compliance and pension administration across UK payroll.

You will lead payroll improvements, oversee year-end activities, and manage overseas payroll, while coaching the Payroll Supervisor and ensuring robust controls and stakeholder collaboration.

  • Proven knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pension administration.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent Excel and reporting skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with experience driving process enhancements and change initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accurate and timely payroll delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with all payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pension regulations.
  • Manage payroll reconciliations, reporting and statutory payments, including PAYE, NI and pensions.
  • Prepare and oversee year-end payroll activities, including P60s, P11Ds and PSA requirements.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex payroll queries and issues.
  • Lead payroll improvement projects, including system enhancements, process optimisation and legislative changes.
  • Manage overseas and casual payroll arrangements.
  • Develop, coach and support the Payroll Supervisor, fostering a high-performing and customer-focused team culture.
  • Maintain robust payroll controls, documentation and business continuity plans.
  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders, auditors and third-party payroll partners.

We are actively seeking a Payroll Manager for a well established and growing company in Media City, Salford.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a very successful business on a 15 month fixed term contract (maternity cover).

The main duties include:

Our client is looking for a part or fully qualified CIPP Payroll Professional who has:

  • Significant experience managing payroll operations and payroll teams
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pension administration
  • Proven leadership, coaching and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset with experience driving process enhancements and change initiatives
