TPF Recruitment is supporting an established accountancy practice in Canterbury with the recruitment of a Payroll Manager. This role oversees a busy payroll department delivering services to owner‑managed businesses and provides leadership to a payroll team.

You will be instrumental in growing the payroll function, ensuring accuracy, compliance and excellent service to clients while contributing to the practice's ongoing success.

Qualifications

  • Substantial payroll experience, ideally gained in an accountancy practice, payroll bureau or client‑facing environment.
  • Experience overseeing or supporting other payroll team members.
  • Strong technical payroll knowledge and understanding of current legislation.
  • Organised, accurate and able to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied portfolio of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee, support and develop members of the payroll team, reviewing their work.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and responding to payroll queries.
  • Ensure compliance with current payroll legislation and manage related reporting and submissions.
  • Oversee workplace pension and auto enrolment requirements, including assessments and submissions.
  • Support development of efficient systems and processes across the department.
  • Collaborate with partners and senior management to support growth of the payroll service.

TPF Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a highly established and reputable accountancy practice in Canterbury with the recruitment of a Payroll Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast growing practice with a large and successful payroll department. You will oversee the delivery of payroll services to a varied portfolio of owner managed businesses, while managing and developing a team of payroll professionals.

The position would suit an experienced Payroll Manager or Payroll Supervisor who is ready to take the next step in their career. You will play an important role in the continued growth and development of the department, with plenty of scope to influence processes, support the team and contribute to the wider success of the practice.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a varied portfolio of weekly, fortnightly and monthly payrolls, ensuring they are processed accurately and on time.
  • Oversee, support and develop members of the payroll team, reviewing their work and providing guidance where required.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, building strong relationships and responding to payroll queries in a professional and timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with current payroll legislation and manage all associated reporting and submissions.
  • Oversee workplace pension and auto enrolment requirements, including assessments and submissions.
  • Support the development of efficient systems and processes across the department.
  • Work closely with the partners and senior management team to support the continued growth of the payroll service.
Requirements
  • Have substantial payroll experience, ideally gained within an accountancy practice, payroll bureau or another client focused environment.
  • Have experience overseeing or supporting other members of a payroll team.
  • Possess strong technical payroll knowledge and a good understanding of current legislation.
  • Be organised, accurate and comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
  • Have excellent communication skills and the confidence to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
