Job description

Location: Southern Board Office – New Liskeard

Start date: As soon as possible

Vacancy Details: Temporary Position - 1.0 FTE (full-time, 35 hours/week) from ASAP to August 31, 2025, then transitioning to 0.5 FTE (part-time, 27.5 hours/week) from September 1, 2025, to July 31, 2026, or until the return of the absent employee.

Requirements:

  1. Post-Secondary Diploma in Business and/or Accounting or Payroll Compliance Practitioner certification with the National Payroll Institute.
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of payroll processes in a computerized system, including month and year-end procedures, account reconciliation, general ledger account coding within a large and complex chart of accounts, and audit processes.
  3. Comprehensive knowledge of government legislation, related acts, and payroll regulations.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting, filtering, reordering columns, and report formatting.
  5. Proven mathematical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
  6. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  7. Ability to work under strict timelines and pressure.
  8. Experience in interpreting and implementing multiple employee/union agreements.
  9. Knowledge of collective agreements, including self-funded leaves, supplementary employment benefit plans, maternity/parental leave top-ups, and vacation pay entitlements.
  10. Experience in preparing Records of Employment manually and electronically, submitting uploads, and responding to information requests within deadlines.
  11. Ability to calculate and reconcile monthly remittances for accounting and external agencies.
  12. Ability to respond promptly to payroll inquiries from staff, employees, vendors, and outside agencies, maintaining privacy standards.
  13. Experience with OMERs and Teachers’ Pension Plan is an asset.
  14. Demonstrates commitment to DSB1’s strategic priorities.
  15. Experience in scanning and digitizing employee records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
