Description

Role overview

We are seeking a professional and reliable Payroll Assistant to cover a fixed-term 6-month contract in our Dundee office. The successful candidate will have experience working in a payroll bureau environment, managing payroll for multiple clients of varying sizes. We’re looking for someone who can hit the ground running and contribute confidently to the day-to-day demands of the role.

While Sage Payroll experience would be beneficial, it’s not essential — we’re most interested in finding someone with the right background, a proactive attitude, and a team-oriented approach.

This position is offered as a fixed-term contract for a duration of 6 months, with the possibility of extension or permanent placement depending on business needs.

Start date: Immediate

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing a payroll service to clients on a weekly, fortnightly, and monthly basis.
  • Uploading payslips and other information to Sage online documents.
  • Processing employee information and preparing payslips.
  • Creating, evaluating, and submitting reports to clients.
  • Reporting to HMRC on various issues.
  • Uploading pensions to the relevant pension provider each pay period.
  • Providing advice and guidance on the more complex aspects of payroll, pay, and benefits to clients.
  • Advising clients of PAYE liabilities due to HMRC.
  • Applying, deducting, and advising clients of any Earnings Arrestments.
  • Reporting to HMRC each pay period by the required deadline dates.
  • Reporting and recoverable statutory payments and Apprenticeship Levy to HMRC.
  • Performing manual calculations on all elements (Tax, NIC, Director NIC, Student Loan, Earnings Arrestments & Pensions).
  • Making salary & PAYE payments on behalf of clients as an approved BACS Bureau.
  • Preparation and submission of monthly CIS Returns and CIS Suffered submissions to HMRC.
  • Building effective and long-term working relationships with clients.

About You

  • Excellent communication skills — engaging with clients over the phone and via email.
  • Experience working in high-pressure environments and managing multiple projects.
  • Experience in a payroll bureau setting.
  • Proactive and enthusiastic attitude, eager to learn and excel.
  • General knowledge of the payroll process from start to finish is beneficial.
  • Experience in Sage or Xero is desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
