Job description

A well-established and friendly business based in Hessle is currently looking to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper & Payroll professional to join their team on a permanent basis. On offer is a competitive salary of £29,000 to £34,000 (depending on experience), along with flexibility and a genuinely supportive team culture.

As a Bookkeeper & Payroll specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing day-to-day bookkeeping tasks using Xero

  • Processing payroll using Brightpay, including support for multiple payroll frequencies (monthly, fortnightly, and weekly)

  • Overseeing payroll for a variety of clients – from small director-only businesses to larger payrolls of up to 300 staff

  • Liaising with the current payroll subcontractor and supporting the transition of payroll tasks in-house

  • Assisting with general office admin – including ad hoc tasks like post runs and providing occasional PA-style support

To be successful in this Bookkeeper & Payroll role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in a practice or busy finance environment, with the ability to hit the ground running

  • Solid knowledge of Xero and Brightpay (or similar software)

  • A strong work ethic and a proactive, can-do attitude – someone who genuinely takes pride in their work

  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills

  • A willingness to support the wider team and get stuck in where needed

This fantastic opportunity is easily commutable from Hull, Beverley, Brough, Cottingham, Anlaby, Willerby, North Ferriby, and the surrounding areas. There is free onsite parking available, and the office is also accessible via public transport. Standard hours are 9am–5pm with a 30-minute lunch, but the business offers flexibility around other commitments or earlier/later start and finish times once settled in.
