Job description

Department: Accounting

Location: Uckfield

Description

Based in our small and friendly payroll team in Uckfield, East Sussex, you will have current payroll experience and be confident in managing a diverse client portfolio (including weekly, fortnightly, and monthly payrolls), dealing with all client queries related to payroll. You will have working knowledge of computerised payroll software (we use PayCircle and will provide comprehensive training).

Key Responsibilities

  1. Liaise with clients and enter payroll data from start to finish
  2. Reconcile payroll to client data and issue payroll reports & payslips
  3. Prepare payroll journals
  4. Reconcile weekly and monthly PAYE figures
  5. Prepare BACS files
  6. Administer Pension Auto-enrolment, including making appropriate declarations to The Pensions Regulator
  7. Produce and distribute pension scheme returns, including notifications of changes in members’ status and uploading to pension providers
  8. Deal effectively with queries from clients, HMRC, and other in-house departments

Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise

ESSENTIAL

  • Payroll bureau experience
  • Able to manually calculate tax, NI, pensions, etc.
  • Good working knowledge of statutory family leave, SSP, salary sacrifice, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive team player confident in working with changing priorities in a busy department
  • Organized with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
  • Intermediate MS Office skills, especially Excel

This is a highly deadline-driven role, so flexibility on hours during peak times may be required.
