Job summary

Ciphr is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join our team at the Reading HQ. You will play a key role in managing payroll for our bureau clients, ensuring accurate processing of PAYE, pensions and year-end procedures, while maintaining confidentiality and high data integrity.

You will advise clients on HMRC changes, handle queries, and collaborate with the implementation team on boarding new customers. The role offers an opportunity to develop in a growing, UK-based payroll services provider.

Qualifications

  • Experience with payroll software and pension processing.
  • Understanding of RTI and HMRC compliance basics.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and data protection.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in payroll calculations.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain client relationships.
  • Knowledge of pension deductions and employer pension schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage relationships with a portfolio of bureau customers.
  • Process PAYE related matters including deductions, JSA/SSP/SMP, P60s and P11Ds.
  • Manage pension deductions and advise on pensions where relevant.
  • Advise clients on HMRC legislative changes.
  • Handle employee/HMRC queries and liaise with client staff.
  • Improve internal payroll processes and workflows.
  • Collaborate with implementation team to onboard new customers.

Location:

The role is based from our HQ in Reading, Berkshire, to ensure you receive the highest quality hands-on training and can build strong relationships across the team.

Our Payroll Bureau function strives for tailored industry-specific solutions, providing the tools and the expertise required to bring accurate, timely, cost-effective payroll to the widest possible range of UK based organisations. Critically, this role will be part of a team who successfully manage end-to-end payroll solutions, offering hosted payroll software as well as fully managed payroll and bureau services. Our objective is to deliver solutions which address our customers’ needs very precisely, ultimately identifying how PBS can optimise an organisations payroll solution.

On a day-to-day basis of a Payroll Administrator, this is what you can expect:
  • Own, nurture and develop the relationship with a portfolio of bureau customers and ensure they experience the value of our products, services, and expertise.
  • Manage all PAYE related matters for customers including, SSP, SMP, SPP, Pension deduction, Attachment of earnings, Starters/Leavers, PAYE end of year procedures including provision of end of year forms P60s and P11ds.
  • Manage and deduct pensions, it would be a benefit if you are aware of public sector pensions i.e., teachers, NHS.
  • Advise clients on latest HMRC legislative changes.
  • Manage employee/HMRC queries and liaise with all levels of client personnel.
  • Develop, enhance, and streamline internal processes.
  • Work alongside implementation team to onboard new customers including parallel run processing.
