Job description

Payroll Administrator – Pensions

Location: Glasgow City Centre Salary: £25,000–£30,000 Contract: 14-month FTC

The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established professional services organisation to recruit a Payroll Administrator to join its growing pensions administration team in Glasgow.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with payroll experience who is looking to develop their career within a specialist environment, supporting a varied portfolio of clients and delivering a high-quality service to pension scheme members.

Working as part of a collaborative team, you will play an important role in ensuring pensioner payrolls are processed accurately, payments are made on time and all activities comply with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process pensioner payrolls accurately, ensuring payments are made within agreed deadlines.
  • Calculate and apply PAYE deductions, supporting monthly and year-end HMRC submissions.
  • Maintain pensioner records, including tax code amendments and pension increases.
  • Prepare and issue payslips and other payroll-related communications.
  • Respond to payroll and pension queries from members, clients and other stakeholders.
  • Reconcile pension payroll bank accounts and assist with cash management activities.
  • Support the implementation and onboarding of new client payroll services.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure documentation is processed and stored appropriately.
  • Liaise with external suppliers, banking contacts and other relevant parties.
  • Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems and service delivery.
  • Follow established procedures, data protection requirements and information security standards.
About You

We are keen to hear from candidates who have experience in payroll administration and are looking to build on their existing knowledge within a specialist pensions environment.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience in payroll administration, preferably involving pensioner payrolls.
  • Knowledge of PAYE, statutory deductions and HMRC reporting requirements.
  • Experience using payroll systems and maintaining accurate employee or pensioner records.
  • Strong numerical skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Good communication skills, with confidence handling queries and building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to remain calm and accurate in a busy environment.
  • Good IT skills and the ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
  • A collaborative approach, with a commitment to delivering excellent service.

Relevant qualifications in payroll, pensions or a related discipline would be advantageous, although equivalent practical experience will also be considered.

You don't need to meet every requirement to apply - If you have a solid payroll background, a willingness to learn and a strong eye for detail, we'd be keen to hear from you. Support and training will be available to help you develop the specialist knowledge required for the role.

What's on Offer?
  • Salary of £25,000–£30,000, depending on experience.
  • Hybrid working, with two days per week in the Glasgow office.
  • Flexible working hours, with the opportunity to work between 7am and 7pm.
  • A comprehensive and flexible employee benefits package.
  • Opportunities for professional development, mentoring and ongoing training.
  • A supportive, collaborative working environment where new ideas are encouraged.
  • Access to wellbeing support and employee assistance.
  • Regular team and social activities.
  • Three days of paid volunteering leave per year.
  • An additional day of annual leave to celebrate your birthday.
