Job summary

Confidential in Torbay is seeking an experienced Accountant to join its friendly team. The role focuses on payroll management for a portfolio of clients, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while supporting bookkeeping and accounts work.

The successful candidate will handle weekly/fortnightly/monthly payrolls, manage starters and leavers, submit HMRC FPS/EPS, and maintain robust client records. A proactive, collaborative approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in payroll, ideally in an accountancy practice or payroll bureau.
• Strong bookkeeping and general accounts experience.
• Proficient with BrightPay.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and client service skills.
• Able to manage multiple deadlines.
• Proactive and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Processing weekly, fortnightly, four-weekly and monthly payrolls.
• Managing new starters, leavers, statutory payments, pensions and auto-enrolment.
• Submitting FPS, EPS and other HMRC payroll submissions.
• Responding to payroll-related client queries.
• Maintaining accurate payroll records and documentation.
• Client bookkeeping and maintaining financial records.
• Bank reconciliations and general bookkeeping duties.
• Supporting with accounts preparation and other general practice work.
• Building strong, long-term client relationships.
