Job summary

GXO Logistics, Inc. in Northampton is hiring a part-time Payroll Accountant to ensure accuracy and control of payroll financials across multiple entities. You'll work with Payroll Operations, Finance and HR to reconcile costs, liabilities and balances, ensuring audit-ready processes.

This 17.5-hour-a-week role reports to the Senior Payroll Accountant and offers a flexible pattern. A detail-driven, collaborative professional will thrive in a high-volume environment and help strengthen payroll

Qualifications

  • Payroll accounting experience with strong understanding of journals, reconciliations and financial controls.
  • Knowledge of payroll elements (PAYE, NIC, pensions, deductions) and how payroll links to financial reporting.
  • Experience supporting audits (internal/external) and maintaining documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post payroll journals for multiple entities.
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts (PAYE, NIC, pensions).
  • Support period-end, year-end and audit processes and ensure documentation is audit-ready.

In this dynamic and complex environment, you'll be instrumental in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and control of payroll financials across multiple entities, subsidiaries and delivery models. Working closely with Payroll Operations, Finance and HR, you'll help bring clarity and confidence to payroll reporting, ensuring every cost, liability and balance sheet position is fully reconciled, compliant and audit-ready.

Based in our Central Offices in Northampton and working 17.5 hours per week across five days, this permanent part-time position offers the flexibility to agree a working pattern that suits both you and the business, making it ideal for professionals seeking a better work-life balance without compromising on the opportunity to work in a challenging and rewarding role.

Reporting to the Senior Payroll Accountant, you'll take ownership of payroll journals, balance sheet reconciliations and the resolution of financial discrepancies, while strengthening controls and supporting processes that stand up to internal, external and SOX audits. We're looking to offer a salary of up to £19,600 per annum. In addition, we offer and 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) prorated. What you’ll do on a typical day:

  • Prepare and post payroll journals, ensuring accurate recording of payroll costs and liabilities across all entities
  • Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts (e.g. PAYE, NIC, pensions), resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Support period-end, year-end and audit processes, ensuring documentation is complete, compliant and audit-ready
  • Collaborate with Payroll, Finance and HR to align payroll outputs with financial reporting and resolve issues
  • Apply strong controls, monitor for errors, and contribute to continuous improvement while ensuring GDPR compliance

What you need to succeed at GXO:

  • Payroll accounting experience with strong understanding of journals, reconciliations, and financial controls
  • Skilled in balance sheet reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of payroll elements (PAYE, NIC, pensions, deductions) and how payroll links to financial reporting
  • Highly detail-oriented and analytical, with the ability to follow processes, meet deadlines, and support audits
  • Collaborative, reliable and proactive professional with strong communication skills and a focus on ownership, accuracy, and continuous improvement
