The Payments Risk Manager plays a critical role in Line 2 with protecting the integrity of the institution’s payment operations. This position is responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks across payment processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal risk frameworks. In addition to leading fraud prevention and risk optimisation efforts, the role contributes to strategic initiatives, cross-departmental collaboration, and the preparation of governance-level reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risks across payment processes.
• Ensure payment operations meet regulatory requirements and internal risk management standards.
• Lead the development and implementation of fraud prevention measures.
• Manage payment risk optimisation initiatives, including improvements to the Target Operating Model, risk reporting, and business process design.
• Support the governance and ongoing operations of the Payment Risk Change Forum.
• Coordinate with teams across Payments, Risk, and wider Group functions to ensure aligned delivery of risk controls.
• Collaborate with third-party consultants to remain current with industry trends and best practices in risk management.
• Produce proposals to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of payment risk practices.
• Contribute to a broad range of operational and strategic risk activities.
• Extensive experience in payment risk management, fraud prevention, or financial crime within a banking or financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of UK regulations, including FCA, PSD2, AML, and broader financial crime frameworks.
• Deep knowledge of both UK and international payment schemes and standards.
• Experience in drafting and maintaining payment risk policies is essential.
• Knowledge of BACS, Faster Payments, and CHAPS is essential; SWIFT experience is advantageous but not required.
• Competitive salary up to £65,000, depending on experience and location.
