Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking a Patient Access Representative to provide exceptional customer service at the point of first contact, in a busy clinic setting. You will greet patients, verify demographics, process documents, establish financial responsibilities, and collect payments.

You will also coordinate scheduling with the nursing team, arrange referrals and pre-authorizations, manage recalls, and support telemedicine appointments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; post-secondary education helpful.
• One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office.
• Medical terminology helpful; customer service skills essential.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and verify demographics in the registration process.
• Create, scan & route documents or electronic forms; capture necessary signatures.
• Establish and assign financial responsibility and assist with payment arrangements.
• Collect co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances.
• Resolve registration errors or denied insurance claims via the work queue.
• Coordinate scheduling with nursing team and providers; obtain referrals & pre-authorization.
• Arrange interpreter services; check patients in/out; operate multi-line phone.
• May manage recall/waitlists and serve as a switchboard operator.
• Prepare & coordinate charts; organize provider documents; coordinate Telemed appointments.
• Make reminder calls for appointments; assist with hospital admissions; basic office tasks.

REGISTRATION

• Greet patients & verifies demographics
• Creating, scanning & routing documents or electronic forms
• Inform patients what the document is & capture signatures on necessary paperwork
• Establishes and assigns financial responsibility and assists with arrangements while adhering to appropriate policies and procedures
• Collects co-payments, pre-payments, and payments on account balances
• May work through the registration work queue to address and resolve registration errors or denied insurance claims

SCHEDULING

• Work with nursing team & providers to coordinate & schedule appointments to meet patient’s needs, coordinate provider schedule
• Obtain and coordinate referrals & conduct pre-authorization
• Arrange interpreter services
• Check patients in/out
• Operate multi-line phone
• May resolve work queue issues, manage recall and waitlists, & serve as switchboard operator calling codes and paging providers

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

• Preparation & coordination of charts

• Initiation & collaboration of patient financial assistance
• Track patient visits & health information management on patient accounts
• Compile, distribute, administer, and score assessments
• Coordination of Telemed appointments

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Post-secondary education helpful. One year of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Medical terminology helpful; customer service skills essential. Six months' customer service experience desired. May require BLS for certain locations and/or settings.
