Job summary

AstraZeneca is seeking a Director of Pathology in Cambridge to lead medical and technical oversight of diagnostic assays in an accredited lab supporting clinical trials and biomarker development. You will shape strategy, governance and validation of new tests, including digital pathology, to enable patient stratification and companion diagnostics in a fast-paced environment.

Hybrid working with at least three days in-office, leadership across matrix teams, and delivery of clinically meaningful

Qualifications

• Medical degree recognised by GMC with licence to practise in the UK.
• Significant experience at consultant pathology level in a regulated lab.
• Experience providing medical/technical oversight for testing in accredited settings.
• Strong knowledge of CAP/CLIA, ISO 15189, GCP, IVDR, HTA and related standards.
• Ability to interpret pathology and biomarker data clinically and scientifically.
• Clear leadership, stakeholder management and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Provide pathology oversight of assay performance and result reporting.
• Ensure testing and reporting meet regulatory and quality standards.
• Review and approve laboratory results and reports for clinical relevance.
• Evaluate and approve novel test methods for clinical use.
• Collaborate with QA/QC and operations to evolve methods and workflow.
• Contribute to companion diagnostics strategy and clinical implementation.
• Drive innovation in digital pathology and image analysis.
• Provide medical oversight for prospective patient testing in trials.
• Represent the laboratory in governance and external forums.
