Job summary

Diagnexia, a subsidiary of Deciphex, is seeking an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to lead the Routine section in a forward-thinking, digitised Histopathology lab in Oxford. The role covers technical leadership, rotation through dissection and IHC, staff supervision, SOP maintenance and QA oversight.

You will drive quality management, ensure GDPR compliance and contribute to method development and R&D in a cutting-edge digital pathology environment.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist is mandatory.
• IBMS Higher Specialist Portfolio or Masters is mandatory.
• Minimum 4 years post-registration experience in a UKAS accredited Histopathology Laboratory.
• Proof of CPD and competency.
• Immunohistochemistry (IHC) experience is desirable.
• Experience in preparation for UKAS audits and working in a UKAS accredited laboratory.
• Ability to mentor and supervise staff and manage high-quality service.
• Awareness of clinical significance and research implications.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Routine section to ensure high-quality service meeting clinical needs and regulatory standards.
• Oversee technical and scientific operations and provide specialist advice as required.
• Rotate across dissection, IHC and Specials.
• Supervise junior staff and support recruitment, appraisals and lab targets.
• Maintain SOPs, competency documents, staff training and CPD.
• Support quality management system and ensure compliance with lab protocols, CoSHH and UKAS requirements.
• Receive, label, store and track biological samples; complete specimen workflow.
• Lead QC and EQA activities and audits; resolve issues.
• Develop and validate laboratory methods per ISO 15189 and NEQAS.
• Support R&D in tissue labelling and digitisation.
• Follow GDPR and privacy requirements.
• Maintain records and produce clear reports for stakeholders.
• Collaborate with staff and stakeholders, manage equipment and stock.
