Job overview

The Pathology Digital Service Manager will play a key role in supporting the launch and operationalising of digital pathology within the University College London (UCH) and Queen Square (QS) pathology departments. The digital pathology programme involves pathologists moving from reporting via a glass slide and microscope, to reporting via digital scans of the tissue. This innovative transformation has involved the introduction and adoption of a new digital pathology application (Sectra) supported by new workstations and medical grade screens.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that services are efficiently and effectively run within the Pathology Division. This will be achieved through excellent human resource, financial and performance management, and leadership of change management to achieve improvement in process and patient outcomes.

Main duties of the job

The Pathology Digital Service Manager role is to assist in performance management of the Cellular pathology specialty within Pathology, alongside the respective external and internal performance targets.

To liaise with external providers and partners in achieving excellent working relationships.

The Pathology Digital Service Manager role will be required to work closely with other members of the Pathology management team, administrative and other clinical teams, including managers, administrators, nursing and medical staff, allied health professionals and support workers as well as liaise with a range of staff internally within the Trust and externally with partners and external organisations.

  • Degree and/or an appropriate professional qualification or equivalent.
  • Masters level qualification or equivalent specialist knowledge acquired by experience

Experience

  • Previous managerial experience in a large and complex organisation preferably within the NHS
  • Proven experience analysing and interpreting performance data
  • A proven record of success in managing change while also developing and maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Experience of working unsupervised without close management

  • Experience of working in a busy pathology/ laboratory setting
