Job summary

Millcroft Inn & Spa in Alton, ON is seeking a Pastry Cook to prepare pastries and desserts for the restaurant and for special occasions, conferences and other functions, maintaining a high standard of quality.

You will join a tenured team, work with a passion for pastry, and contribute to a great dining experience while upholding safety and cleanliness in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent; one year of culinary theory and 6000 hours in-house training under a certified chef or equivalent experience (3–5 years).
  • Current Safe Food Handler’s Certificate; basic literacy skills; ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing personalized and exceptional guest service at every given opportunity
  • Prepares and cooks items for pastry desserts for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Sets up line for the lunch buffet and cooks all menu items daily
  • Work in and maintain a clean environment
  • Follow Lais Hotel Properties’ standards for food preparation
  • Assist in stocks and soups under the Executive Sous Chef

Position Summary: Prepares and cooks pastries and desserts for the restaurant and for special occasions, conferences and other functions in a manner consistent with a superior dining facility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Providing personalized and exceptional guest service at every given opportunity
  • Prepares and cooks items for pasty dessert items for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Sets up line for the lunch buffet when required and cooks all menu items on a daily basis
  • Work in and maintain a clean environment
  • Follow Lais Hotel Properties’ standards for food preparation
  • Assists in the preparation of stocks and soups as required under the direction of the Executive Sous Chef
  • All other duties as assigned
Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Having a thorough knowledge of Lais Hotel Properties’ products and services
  • Suggesting additional products and services meeting our guests’ specific preferences
Technical/Managerial/Administrative Requirements:
  • Basic knowledge of WHMIS is considered an asset
  • Standard first aid is considered an asset
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Understand and practice of safe food handling
Professional Requirements:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent experience
  • Theoretical training at a community college in a cook apprenticeship program for one year and 6000 hours of in-house on-the-job training under certified Chef or equivalent experience of 3-5 years
  • Excellent eye-hand coordination and fine motor skills for cutting, chopping and arrangement of meals on plate
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Current Safe Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Previous up-selling and/or sales experience is considered an asset
  • Basic literacy skills
