Job description

Do you have a passion for helping students succeed? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Carshalton College is looking for an enthusiastic and committed Pastoral Tutor to play a key role in supporting students to succeed on their courses and make the most of their college experience.

Working closely with teaching staff, you will provide targeted pastoral support to improve attendance, retention and achievement, while encouraging students to progress within the College and enhancing their overall learner journey.

As a Pastoral Tutor, you will lead timetabled group tutorial sessions and coordinate a rolling programme of 1:1 tutorials, ensuring learners receive the guidance and support they need throughout their studies. You will also oversee initial and diagnostic assessments, identify individual support needs and ensure appropriate provision is in place (ALS). In addition, you will provide instruction in workshop activities for Construction students.

You will have experience supporting young adults to develop their personal, social and employability skills, together with the ability to motivate and engage young people. You will demonstrate an understanding of the importance of discretion and confidentiality, as well as the flexibility to respond effectively to changing service demands and new developments.

You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students at all levels within a multicultural environment. You will be well organised, able to prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines and remain effective when working under pressure.

Closing date for the return of completed applications is 17th September 2026.

The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 40 days plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities and professional development and training plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
