Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Pastoral Support Worker to join a welcoming school in Leeds. The role focuses on supporting pupils' confidence, emotional wellbeing and engagement with education, with a commitment to wellbeing, inclusion and positive relationships.

The successful candidate will have experience in pastoral support, youth work or mentoring and a proactive, collaborative approach to working with teachers and the wider school team. Safeguarding CPD training will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience with children or young people in school, youth, care, sports or community settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries.
  • Calm and consistent approach to challenging behaviour or difficult situations.
  • Good emotional awareness and listening skills.
  • Genuine passion for helping young people overcome barriers and reach their potential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals.
  • Proactive and positive attitude.
  • Willingness to complete safeguarding and CPD training.

Responsibilities

  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who may need pastoral or emotional support.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils as a trusted adult.
  • Supporting pupils with confidence, self-esteem, resilience and wellbeing.
  • Helping pupils manage emotions and develop positive strategies for challenges.
  • Supporting pupils with SEND, SEMH, behavioural or emotional needs.
  • Mentoring pupils and helping them develop positive attitudes towards school.
  • Supporting pupils with attendance, motivation or engagement.
  • Working with teachers and pastoral staff to provide consistent support.
  • Helping manage behaviour and encourage positive relationships.
  • Identifying barriers to learning and guiding access to appropriate support.
  • Encouraging pupils to become independent and take ownership of their learning.
  • Contributing to a safe, welcoming and inclusive school environment.

We're currently recruiting for a Pastoral Support Worker to join a welcoming and supportive school in Leeds. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about helping children and young people develop their confidence, emotional wellbeing, behaviour and engagement with education.

This role would suit someone with experience in pastoral support, youth work, mentoring, sports coaching, education, care or community work who wants to make a meaningful difference to young people.

Your Main Responsibilities
  • Providing one-to-one and small-group support to pupils who may need additional pastoral or emotional support
  • Building strong, positive relationships with pupils and becoming a trusted and consistent adult
  • Supporting pupils with confidence, self-esteem, resilience and emotional wellbeing
  • Helping pupils manage their emotions and develop positive strategies for dealing with challenges
  • Supporting pupils who may experience SEND, SEMH, behavioural or emotional difficulties
  • Mentoring pupils and helping them develop positive attitudes towards school and learning
  • Supporting pupils who may be struggling with attendance, motivation or engagement
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff and the wider school team to provide consistent support
  • Helping manage behaviour and encouraging positive choices and respectful relationships
  • Identifying barriers that may be affecting a pupil's ability to learn and helping them access appropriate support
  • Encouraging pupils to develop independence and take ownership of their behaviour and learning
  • Supporting the school in creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment
Requirements or Skills

We're looking for someone who is approachable, resilient, patient and confident in working with young people.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, youth, care, sports or community setting
  • Experience supporting behaviour, wellbeing or emotional needs is desirableStrong communication and interpersonal skills
