Job summary

Milk Education is currently recruiting for a Pastoral Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in East London. You will provide emotional and behavioural support to students, working closely with teachers and the pastoral team to help remove barriers to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs.
  • Build positive relationships with students and the wider pastoral team.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, attendance, and engagement.
  • Assist with managing behaviour using restorative approaches.
  • Work with teachers, safeguarding teams, and external professionals as required.

Pastoral Support Assistant

Milk Education is currently recruiting for a Pastoral Support Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in East London.

We are seeking a caring, resilient, and proactive individual who is passionate about supporting young people's wellbeing, behaviour, and personal development. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in pastoral care, youth work, education, psychology, or SEND support who wants to make a positive impact in a school environment.

As a Pastoral Support Assistant, you will work closely with students, teachers, and the wider pastoral team to provide emotional and behavioural support, helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.

The role will involve:
  • Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with social, emotional, and behavioural needs
  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation, confidence, attendance, and engagement
  • Helping to manage behaviour using restorative and positive approachesWorking alongside teachers, safeguarding teams, and external professionals where required
  • Supporting students who may require additional guidance due to SEND, SEMH, or personal challenges
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Experience working with young people in an education, youth work, SEND, or support setting
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour management
  • A genuine passion for supporting student wellbeing and development
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a wider pastoral team

This role would suit graduates in Psychology, Education, Counselling, or related fields, as well as experienced support staff looking to develop their career within education.
