Job summary

CHS South in Manchester is seeking an Assistant Pastoral Leader to join our dedicated team. This Grade 4, permanent full-time role is 35 hours per week, term time plus one week, with a starting salary of £26,403 (pro-rata £22,710).

Working hours are 8:00am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid break. You will support a year group, address attendance and welfare concerns, collaborate with staff and families, and maintain high standards of behaviour, safeguarding, and records.

Qualifications

  • Numeracy and literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level 2.
  • Experience of working with or caring for children of a relevant age.
  • The ability to relate well to children and adults.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A basic understanding of child development and learning.
  • An understanding of the role of support staff and other professionals in helping students fulfil their potential.
  • A flexible, proactive and positive approach.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding and continuous professional development.
  • The ability to use initiative, exercise sound judgement and respond appropriately to challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an identified year group of students with outstanding support and guidance, enabling them to thrive and succeed.
  • Address attendance, behaviour, pastoral and welfare concerns and help pupils overcome barriers to learning.
  • Work collaboratively with school staff, families and external agencies to support student wellbeing.
  • Help provide accurate attendance, punctuality, behaviour and other pastoral information to governors, leaders and staff.
  • Maintain a high profile around the school and promote high standards of behaviour, uniform and equipment.
  • Offer practical support, mentoring and guidance to students.
  • Liaise constructively with parents and carers to support attendance, learning and wellbeing.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reports and data analysis.
  • Take a lead role in supervising pupils and maintaining a positive learning environment with high expectations.
  • Support whole-class cover, break and lunchtime duties, on-call arrangements, detentions and strategic behaviour interventions.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and the protection of all pupils.
