Job summary

Malcolm Arnold Academy is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Leader to support the Pastoral and SLT teams in raising achievement and behaviour across the academy. You will promote a sense of identity within year groups and encourage belonging across the school.

The role is permanent, 37 hours per week across 39 weeks per year, with responsibilities including attendance, safeguarding, liaison with parents and agencies, and contributing to pastoral reporting and support plans.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in Maths and English are required or desirable.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is essential.
  • Ability to use ICT effectively in a school context.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with parents, staff and officers on attendance and pastoral support matters.

Responsibilities

  • Set high expectations for students and promote positive behaviour.
  • Assist with new student induction and open evenings.
  • Liaise with staff, parents and agencies to support student welfare.
  • Help monitor attendance and punctuality in line with policy.
  • Update and use student records and pastoral intervention data.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and welfare duties with SLT.

Job description

As one of our school's Pastoral Leaders, you will support the Pastoral and Senior Leadership Teams (SLT) in raising levels of achievement and standards of behaviour across the academy through promoting a strong sense of positive identity within year/house groups and a sense of belonging across the academy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting high expectations for all students
  • Assisting with new student induction
  • Participate and facilitate designated open evenings and parent evenings.
  • Overseeing staff/ parent liaison within designated year groups as and when appropriate
  • Working with students, staff, and families to enable students to flourish in school life
  • Be on duty each morning from 8:00am to 8:30am at Key Stage entrances to supervise student entry and deal with any issues that arise (for example uniform, appearance, lates).
  • Follow up on attendance concerns with students and parents to promote regular and punctual attendance in accordance with the attendance policy.
  • Update student records and administrative systems.
  • Contribute to and check student profile reports (especially behaviour and intervention logging on Bromcom) and their use in pastoral matters.
  • Issue and check on reports and support plans once they have been set up.
  • Prepare necessary information for disciplinary hearings with the SLT.
  • Arrange and service meetings with parents and other agencies as and when appropriate.
  • To support the safeguarding, attendance, and welfare officers in their roles

Who we are looking for
  • A good standard of education, including GCSEs in Maths and English (Qualifications with specific relevance to the role is desirable).
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting is essential.
  • Ability to use effective ICT skills relevant to the role.
  • Ability to provide clear advice and information to parents/carers, teaching staff, and other officers and professionals on matters relating to academy attendance, exclusions, pastoral support programmes, and the education welfare service.
  • Ability to relate sensitively to students with complex problems and to contribute to a team approach to ensure that students’ needs are considered.
  • Understanding of need for confidentiality and legal frameworks governing data
  • Knowledge and understanding of keeping children safe in education.
  • At least two years’ experience working with people in an educational, training, or social work setting and providing support for their learning, achievement, and wellbeing.
  • A strong record and evidence of continuous professional and personal development.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with students, colleagues, clients, and academy staff at an appropriate level.
