Job summary

New Barn School in Newbury, Berkshire, is seeking a Pastoral Assistant to provide wellbeing support to students and work with teachers and families to create a nurturing environment. The role is fixed-term until September 2027, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, starting November 2026. Salary is £28,000 per annum, not pro rata.

You will build trusting relationships, support emotional wellbeing, and help students build confidence and resilience as part of Options Autism.

Qualifications

• UK driving licence required.
• Experience supporting students with social, emotional, behavioural, or additional needs.
• Strong safeguarding and child protection knowledge.
• Excellent communication with students, families and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide pastoral and emotional support to students.
• Build trusting relationships to foster confidence and growth.
• Collaborate with Pastoral Managers and Welfare Lead on wellbeing and behaviour.
• Help students develop resilience, self-esteem and social skills.
• Support positive learning through encouragement and structured guidance.
