Job summary

Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Band 6) to join the Bacteriology Department at Frimley Park Hospital on a fixed-term 18-month contract. The role is 15 hours per week and offers a flexible, part-time arrangement within a supportive laboratory team.

You will rotate through sections, using automated and molecular technologies such as Kiestra, MALDI-TOF and PCR to deliver high-quality diagnostic microbiology services.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered as Biomedical Scientist.
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio (Microbiology) completed.
• Enthusiastic about developing knowledge and skills.
• Enjoys working in a busy, collaborative laboratory team.
• Adaptable and keen to embrace new technologies.
• Willing to participate in the laboratory shift rota.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic microbiology examinations and report results.
• Interpret culture plates and complex analysers.
• Process samples including blood, CSF, urine, faeces, sputum, tissues and diverse secretions.
• Work as part of a rotating Bacteriology team.
• Contribute to high-quality diagnostic service delivery.
