Job summary

Harris Professional Skills Sixth Form, part-time science technician, supports the science department by preparing equipment and materials for practical lessons and assisting teachers with experiments. The role emphasizes COSHH compliance, safety, and maintaining a clean, safe science area.

The post requires an A Level or equivalent (including physics/chemistry/biology) and experience as a school technician, with eligibility to work in the UK. 39-week academic year and 15 hours per week.

Qualifications

• A Level or equivalent including physics/chemistry/biology.
• Experience as a school technician and ability to manage own workload.
• COSHH training where appropriate.

Responsibilities

• Prepare classroom layouts and equipment for practical lessons, run trials and demonstrations, and support teachers.
• Prepare equipment and materials to teachers' specifications, including making up or modifying equipment.
• Advise students and staff on safe use of tools and equipment and on safe activity methods.
• Carry out safety checks and risk assessments under health and safety, COSHH and school requirements.
• Assist with safety, repair and maintenance of resources, equipment and tools, and flag out-of-scope work.
