Job summary

Fawkes & Reece West is working with a client near Bridgend to appoint an experienced Part-Time Quantity Surveyor for an M&E refurbishment project in a hotel and spa. The role is primarily Bridgend-based with occasional Windsor site visits, and it runs for approximately 11 months.

The successful candidate will manage budgets, valuations, variations and final accounts, while maintaining robust financial reporting and commercial controls. Flexible 2–3 days per week work pattern is offered.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within M&E/building services.
• Experience on refurbishment projects in hospitality or hotel environments.
• Strong understanding of subcontract packages and commercial processes.

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial aspects of M&E refurbishment works.
• Prepare, review and manage budgets and cost plans.
• Handle subcontractor accounts, valuations and payments.
• Review variations, change orders and compensation events.
• Provide financial reporting and cost forecasting.
• Assist with cash flow and cost-value reconciliation.

Fawkes & Reece West are currently working with an established M&E client based near Bridgend, who are looking to appoint an experienced Part-Time Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of a major M&E refurbishment project.

The project involves the refurbishment of an established hotel and spa complex in Windsor, with the successful candidate primarily working from the client's Bridgend office and making occasional visits to the Windsor site as required.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with an M&E background to join a live project on a flexible, part-time basis for approximately 11 months.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for providing commercial support and ensuring effective financial management throughout the project. Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing the commercial aspects of M&E refurbishment works.
• Preparing, reviewing and managing project budgets and cost plans.
• Managing subcontractor accounts, valuations and payments.
• Reviewing and agreeing variations, change orders and compensation events.
• Monitoring project costs and providing accurate financial reporting.
• Assisting with forecasting, cash flow and cost-value reconciliation.
• Reviewing subcontractor applications for payment and preparing valuations.
• Managing final accounts and ensuring costs are accurately captured.
• Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
• Working closely with the project management, engineering and commercial teams.
• Attending occasional site visits in Windsor to support commercial and project requirements.
• Maintaining accurate commercial records and project documentation.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within the M&E / building services sector.
• Experience working on refurbishment projects, ideally within commercial, hospitality, hotel or similar environments.
• Strong understanding of M&E subcontract packages and associated commercial processes.
• Proven experience in subcontractor procurement, valuations, variations and final accounts.
• Strong commercial and financial management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyse costs effectively.
• Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial procedures.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and relevant commercial/project management software.
• A flexible approach to working 2-3 days per week, primarily from the Bridgend office.
• Willingness to make occasional visits to the project site in Windsor.

Qualifications & Professional Memberships

A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline would be desirable.

Candidates who are RICS qualified or working towards RICS membership would be advantageous, although relevant industry experience will also be considered.

• 250- 300 per day, depending on experience.
