Job summary

Acorn Early Years - Burton Latimer Nursery is seeking a reliable Kitchen Assistant to join our team. The role supports the preparation and serving of healthy meals for children aged four months to four years, while maintaining high kitchen hygiene and safety standards.

You will work closely with the Nursery Cook and Manager, with Monday to Friday 12:00-18:00, 30 hours per week, ensuring meals meet dietary needs and waste is minimised.

Qualifications

• Supports the preparation and serving of healthy meals and snacks for children
• Maintains high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and safety
• Works with nursery team to promote healthy eating and wellbeing

Responsibilities

• Support the preparation and cooking of age-appropriate food for all children
• Ensure dietary requirements are catered for and communicated to staff
• Assist in preparing sufficient food daily while minimising waste
• Maintain cleanliness and food hygiene in kitchen and eating areas
• Complete food safety and hygiene paperwork accurately
• Monitor kitchen supplies and inform staff when stock is low
• Support budget awareness and stock control
• Cover the Nursery Cook in their absence when required
• Work with staff and parents to promote healthy diets
• Ensure compliance with Acorn policies, health & safety, fire safety and safeguarding procedures
• Safeguard all children and contribute to a safe environment
