Job summary

Penmellyn Vets in Mid Cornwall is seeking an enthusiastic OOH Veterinary Nurse on a part-time basis to join our team at the main hospital, where our out-of-hours service is hosted. You’ll deliver high-quality nursing care for a varied caseload, work a rolling rota with 7:30pm–8:00am shifts, and benefit from a supportive, team-based environment with opportunities for professional development.

Registration with the RCVS is required, and a passion for inpatient care and client support is essential.

• Registered Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Experience in out-of-hours and inpatient nursing preferred
• Strong communication and teamwork to support clients and colleagues

We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated OOH Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Penmellyn Vets on a part-time basis.

Located in the heart of Mid Cornwall, Penmellyn Vets has a main hospital in St Columb, supported by 5 branch surgeries throughout the area. This role will be primarily based at our main hospital, where our out-of-hours service is also based.

Practice Highlights

• Experienced, well-supported team
• Busy hospital caseload with regular medical, surgical and orthopaedic referrals
• Overnight support, with twilight, prep nurse and morning SVN cover

How You’ll Make a Difference

As an OOH Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high-quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences.

You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice.

Working Pattern

• 31.25 hours per week
• 2 days every other week on a rolling rota - Wednesday & Friday in Week 1 (with potential for 3 days) and Monday, Friday Saturday in Week 2.
• Shift times are 7:30pm - 8:00am

General Responsibilities

• Post-operative care and management of surgical inpatients, including orthopaedic cases.
• Medical and surgical management of a varied caseload
• Assisting with and performing a range of surgical procedures.
• Providing ECC care, including blood transfusions through the Pet Blood Bank.
