Job summary

The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh is seeking a part-time Visitor Services Assistant to support our ground-breaking museum. Reporting to the Visitor Services Supervisor the primary duties and responsibilities will include opening and closing the museum, welcoming visitors, issuing tickets and handling cash.

You will supervise galleries, manage shop sales, recording visitors, assist with events, tours when capacity allows, and help with accessibility and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Welcome visitors, issue tickets, shop sales, handle cash and card transactions.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures, visitor counts, and float preparation.
• Reception area housekeeping e.g. leaflet replenishment, restocking shop items.
• Supervise galleries to ensure visitor and object safety, reporting hazards or incidents promptly.
• Provide information, answer enquiries where possible and direct to appropriate colleagues as required.
• Support accessibility needs.
• Assist with evacuation and incident response, including first aid and fire safety protocols.
• Participate in training and follow all Museum and College policies and procedures.
• Conduct short, guided tours when capacity allows.
• Assist with events as required.
