Job summary

Harborough Field Surgery in Rushden is seeking a skilled Phlebotomist to join our friendly general practice team for two part-time morning clinics. Hours are 8am - 1pm, Monday to Friday, supporting patient care in a busy GP setting.

You will obtain venous blood samples, ensure proper labelling and timely transport, and work closely with GPs and nurses to support chronic care and diagnostics. A collaborative, patient‑focused environment awaits.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with the general public.
• Experience in a healthcare setting and primary care environment.
• Infection prevention and control knowledge.
• General education proof or qualifications as required for the post.

Responsibilities

• Obtain patient consent for the collection of a blood sample.
• Perform venepuncture in accordance with practice protocols.
• Maintain accurate patient records on the clinical IT system and ensure specimens are ready for onward transportation.
• Ensure correct labelling, packaging and storing of samples.
• Use the specimen log effectively and resolve discrepancies.
• Ensure samples are sent to the laboratory in a timely manner.
• Liaise with NHS Trust laboratory staff.
• Work with nursing staff and seek guidance as needed.
• Be an integral part of the general practice team.
• Act as a chaperone as required.
• Manage clinical waste and sharps bins per IPC policy.
• Work within national and local protocols that exist.
• Be aware of safeguarding duties for adults and children.
• Support administrative team as required.
• Complete mandatory training and induction.
• Contribute to clinical governance.
• Maintain a clean, tidy working area at all times.
• Attend formal appraisal at least every 12 months with progress reviews.
