Job summary

Macklin Care Homes in Belfast is seeking a compassionate Support Worker for the Galway Suite mental health unit. The role offers 27.5 hours weekly with day and night shifts and a focus on delivering excellent resident care supported by a friendly team.

Successful applicants must be fully flexible to shifts, register with NISCC, and complete an Enhanced Access NI check. Induction, training, and career development are provided within a values-based culture.

Qualifications

• An understanding of current approaches to mental health practice.
• Awareness of the local services available to those with mental health needs.
• Understanding of types of mental health illnesses and the level of care residents will require.
• Caring, empathetic and compassionate nature.

Responsibilities

• Experience working within a mental health environment.
• Good working knowledge of The Mental Health Order (1986).
• An understanding of current approaches to mental health practice.
• Ability to collaborate with a challenging resident group positively.
• Ensuring care plans are comprehensive and understandable by the resident.
• Supporting, encouraging, and prompting residents with their medication.
• Accurately maintain documentation both manually and electronically.
• Ensure house rules are kept and adhered to, providing a safe environment.
• Communicate effectively with colleagues, residents, and visitors.
• Assisting residents with booking and attending appointments.
• Support residents in daily tasks: self-care, shopping, and household tasks.
• Promoting residents to develop their skills and increase their independence.
