Job summary

University of Sheffield, through the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering, seeks an outstanding academic to strengthen teaching in Structural Engineering. The post holder will own 10 credits of the 2nd year module, delivering teaching and assessment with in-person and online support.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in Civil Engineering or a relevant discipline. Essential. Application/interview.
  • Ability to design and deliver high-quality, research-led teaching programmes to enable effective learning.
  • Ability to critically review and assess existing teaching programmes and own teaching practice to drive positive change.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently with a high degree of personal effectiveness.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships at all levels with academia, professions and industry.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development.
  • Teaching qualification is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver 10 credits of the 2nd year undergraduate module Structural Engineering Design and Appraisal.
  • Provide timely feedback and support students through in-person and online sessions.
  • Contribute to other taught modules in the Structural Engineering discipline at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Engage in professional activities and external links to foster collaboration at regional and national levels.
  • Engage in administration and committee work as required by the School.
