Job summary

West Herts is seeking a passionate lecturer to teach on the UAL Level 3 3D Design course at the Watford campus. The role is 15 hours per week, primarily on Tuesdays and Fridays, delivering both practical and theoretical content to a diverse student cohort.

We value expertise in CAD/3D design and Blender, along with strong workshop and prototyping skills. You will contribute to course development, assessment, and industry-aligned learning, while fostering a supportive learning environment.

Job description

The School of Art and Design is looking for an enthusiastic and flexible lecturer to join our contemporary, forward thinking, and high achieving team at our Watford Campus. The successful candidate will be working 15 hours per week on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Working closely with our students, stakeholders and employers, you will strive for continuous improvement and higher standards for the benefit of the whole community. We aim to do the ordinary things extraordinarily well.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a broad range of skills to predominantly teach on our UAL Level 3 3D Design course.. You will be delivering both practical industry skills and creative knowledge to our eager students.

Candidates should demonstrate competence in various creative and technical processes such as but not limited to:

• Product design and development
• Practical workshop skills and making techniques
• Working with a range of materials and processes
• Model making and prototyping
• Drawing, visualisation and design development
• Craft and experimental making processes
• Sustainable design practices
• Communication and presentation skills

CAD and digital 3D design skills are highly desirable, particularly experience using Blender or similar 3D modelling software. Experience of using digital design processes alongside practical making, prototyping and model making would be particularly beneficial.

These skills will not only enhance our learners’ academic journey but also prepare them for successful progression into Higher Education and careers within Product Design, Craft and the wider creative industries.

The successful candidate will be positive, enthusiastic, resilient and have an eagerness to seek out development opportunities for our courses. You will also be able to demonstrate an adaptive and flexible teaching style to support and stretch a diverse range of students.

Teaching experience and relevant qualifications are desirable although we are keen to hear from anyone with the right skills and who is willing to engage in self-development.

It is essential that our courses reflect industry practices, and you will be key in driving course development to ensure it remains relevant and meets contemporary industry needs. You should also expect to provide prompt, accurate and detailed assessment of student work at key stages during the academic year.

Please note that applicants must be available to work on both Tuesdays and Fridays.
