Job summary

Lancashire County Council operates Vale View Day Centre in Lancaster, seeking a part‑time Catering Supervisor. The role involves preparing menus, portion control, and providing special dietary meals for elderly residents, ensuring hygiene and safety in a fast-paced kitchen.

You will supervise staff, manage stock and ordering, and contribute to menu planning and cost control. The position is fixed-term until 30/06/2027 with weekend pay enhancements and pro-rated salary for part-time hours.

Qualifications

Proven experience in menu planning and stock control.
Demonstrated ability to cater for large numbers.
Experience in supervising staff within a kitchen environment.
Knowledge of food costing and stock control.
Understanding of specialised diets and basic nutritional needs.
Awareness of basic hygiene and Health & Safety requirements.
Proficiency in the correct use of kitchen equipment and utensils.

Responsibilities

Prepare menus, portion control, and provide special dietary meals for residents.
Maintain high standards of hygiene and Health & Safety in the kitchen.
Oversee service points, record-keeping, ordering supplies, and stock counting.
Supervise kitchen staff to ensure safe, efficient operations.
Contribute to menu planning, stock control, and cost awareness.
