Job summary

Lancashire County Council is seeking a Relief Cook in Morecambe to support elderly residents with nutritious meals. You will oversee menu planning, portion control, hygiene, safety, stock control, ordering supplies and recording stock levels, while supervising kitchen staff to ensure meals are prepared to high standards.

This permanent, part-time role (17 hours per week) offers a pro-rata salary of £25,949 per year with enhanced pay for weekend working and mileage expenses paid.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in menu planning and stock control.
• Demonstrated ability to cater for large numbers.
• Experience in supervising staff within a kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of food costing and stock control.
• Understanding of specialised diets and basic nutritional needs.
• Awareness of basic hygiene and Health & Safety requirements.
• Proficiency in the correct use of kitchen equipment and utensils.

Responsibilities

• Oversee menu planning, portion control, and dietary meals for residents.
• Maintain high standards of hygiene and Health & Safety in the kitchen.
• Control service points, record-keeping, ordering supplies, and stock counts.
• Supervise kitchen staff and ensure safe, effective operation.
