Job summary

The Reynard Surgery is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join our busy rural practice in a patient-facing role with both clinical and administrative responsibilities. This part-time position covers 16 hours per week across two days.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the Care Certificate, or willingness to undertake, as indicated by the CQC.
• Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care, or equivalent.
• Experience of working within a GP practice or other care environment.
• Strong clinical skills including venepuncture/phlebotomy.
• Excellent patient-facing communication and interpersonal skills.
• Confidential manner with a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.
• Ability to work independently, determining own workload priorities, as well as working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out base-line observations such as pulse, oximetry, temperature, blood pressure and blood glucose levels, recording findings accurately.
• Wound care, venepuncture, phlebotomy checks and administering of medicines and vaccines.
• Ensure that all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
• Update patient health records.
• Ensure that medical supplies are in stock.
• Act as a chaperone where required.
• Assist GP during the performance of minor operations.
• Communicate with patients, relatives, and carers including providing valuable health promotion and education.
• NHS patient healthchecks.
