Job summary

aaa Consulting is supporting an independent engineering, design and project management consultancy in the energy sector with a Financial Controller role on a part-time basis (3–4 days per week) in the Aberdeen area. You will oversee financial operations across a portfolio of companies and projects, ensuring accurate reporting and robust controls.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or similar senior finance role.
• Background in engineering, energy, technical services, or project-based environments.
• Strong expertise in financial reporting, controls, and management accounting.
• Experience managing intercompany transactions and reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Sage or a comparable ERP/accounting systems
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• Commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insight

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, forecasts and financial reports
• Manage month-end and year-end reporting processes
• Monitor business and project performance against budgets and forecasts, providing meaningful analysis and recommendations
• Work closely with project controls to ensure accurate project financial reporting, forecasting and cost management
• Maintain and enhance financial controls, policies and governance procedures
• Manage cash flow reporting and working capital requirements
• Oversee intercompany accounting, reconciliations and balance sheet integrity
• Ensure compliance with all statutory, audit and tax requirements
• Support the ongoing development and optimisation of Sage, or similar finance systems
• Provide financial guidance and commercial support to operational and project teams
