Job summary

CMR Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Part Time Financial Controller to lead the finance function within a growing SME book distributor. The role is 3 days per week, hands-on with strategic oversight, reporting to Directors and supporting business planning.

You will manage budgets, cash flow, controls, payroll, audits, and commercial analysis, while guiding a small finance team and advising leadership on financial strategy.

Qualifications

• CIMA qualification or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in a senior accounting or finance management role.
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and management reporting.
• Experience liaising with auditors and external professional advisers.
• Understanding of payroll processes and tax planning.
• Experience managing credit control and debtor financing arrangements.
• Strong Excel and financial systems skills.
• Ability to work independently and provide practical commercial advice to Directors.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the company's finance function.
• Prepare cash flow forecasts and reporting.
• Develop, monitor, and manage annual budgets.
• Provide management accounts and ad hoc financial reporting to Directors.
• Support strategic decision-making through commercial and financial analysis.
• Ensure robust financial controls and compliance processes are maintained.
• Manage the payroll process through the company's external payroll provider.
• Supervise and support an experienced part–time finance team member.
• Review and approve financial transactions and reconciliations.
• Oversee royalty calculations and payments.
• Lead tax planning activities in line with current legislation.
• liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
• Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance across financial activities.
• Monitor and oversee credit control processes.
• Take responsibility for the company's Creditsafe monitoring and reporting.
• Manage the invoice discounting facility and relationship with Bibby Financial Services.
• Monitor debtor performance and working capital requirements.
• Oversee the management and review of commercial contracts.
• Support Directors with financial modelling, forecasting, and business planning.
• Oversee HR administration and employment–related processes.
• Ensure Health & Safety policies, procedures, and legislative requirements are implemented and maintained.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Part Time Financial Controller to take ownership of the finance function within a successful and growing SME book distributor. Working closely with the Directors, you will provide strategic financial oversight while remaining hands–on in the day–to–day management of the business's finances and operational support functions.

3 Days Per Week

The responsibilities of the Part Time Financial Controller include but are not limited to:

Financial Management

• Take overall responsibility for the company's finance function.
• Prepare and manage cash flow forecasts and reporting.
• Develop, monitor, and manage annual budgets.
• Provide management accounts and ad hoc financial reporting to Directors.
• Support strategic decision–making through commercial and financial analysis.
• Ensure robust financial controls and compliance processes are maintained.

Payroll & Accounting Operations

• Manage the payroll process through the company's external payroll provider.
• Supervise and support an experienced part–time finance team member.
• Provide hands–on operational support and holiday cover where required.
• Review and approve financial transactions and reconciliations.
• Oversee royalty calculations and payments.

Tax & Compliance

• Lead tax planning activities in line with current legislation.
• Liaise with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
• Ensure statutory and regulatory compliance across financial activities.

Credit Control & Funding

• Monitor and oversee credit control processes.
• Take responsibility for the company's Creditsafe monitoring and reporting.
