City of Edinburgh Council is seeking an Early Years Assistant to support children in the playrooms and learning environments. The role is 12 hours per week across 39 weeks per year, with a salary of £26,806–£27,032 pro rata for part-time, sessional work.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction and supervision of teaching staff, support children in playrooms and learning environments with organised activities to help each child achieve learning and development goals.
• Provide support to teachers and early years staff in all learning environments, including language, numeracy, health and wellbeing and other early years activities.
• Assist in developing children’s creativity and life skills through play and planned programmes.
• Help children organise their day and follow instructions.
• Provide high levels of individual and personal care for children with additional support needs, including feeding, toileting, changing, dressing and using medical aids, while promoting independence and safety.
• Contribute to record keeping, attendance at meetings, and ongoing review of child programmes, and support the child’s personal learning profile.
• Assist with implementing school/early years behaviour policies and health and safety procedures, liaising with parents and professionals as required.
• Support routine administrative aspects of child welfare, document handling, and responding to minor accidents or ailments.
