Job summary

HomeCare Direct Limited is seeking a compassionate Personal Assistant to support a young man with complex health needs in his Suffolk home and community. The role focuses on personal care, medication and daily routines, with training provided to follow the client’s care plan.

The client’s routines are important, and PAs must be calm, reassuring, and adaptable to changes, including occasional day trips and overnight stays. Driving is desirable and eligibility to work in the UK is required.

Qualifications

• Eligible to work in the UK; Home Care Direct does not offer sponsorship or work visas.
• Full UK driving licence is desirable.
• Experience with learning disabilities/autism.
• Prepared to support personal care and catheter care.
• Medication/first aid/food hygiene.
• Calm and reassuring, particularly when client is anxious or needs repetition.
• Observant and able to recognise when client may be unwell or in pain.
• Respectful of client’s privacy, dignity, independence and choices.
• A good communicator willing to work with PA and family team.
• Prepared to undertake relevant training and follow client’s care plans.

Responsibilities

• Support the client to maintain independence, dignity in home and community.
• Provide support with personal care, medication and daily routines.
• Assist with bladder care and self-catheterisation per the client’s care plan.
• Support with complex health needs, recognising and responding to pain.
• Provide a calm, patient and reassuring approach around routine changes.
• Encourage and support participation in meaningful activities for him.
• Support with community activities, walks, coffee outings, family visits, church and train travel.
• Help with meal preparation and everyday tasks within his home.
• Understand his communication, routines and preferences and build a positive relationship.
• Work with family and PA team to provide consistent, person-centred support.
• Be flexible to support occasional day trips, respite and overnight stays.
• Follow the client’s care plan with full training and guidance.
