Job summary

The Band 3 Occupational Therapy Support Worker role is based in Bristol within our Secure Services Occupational Therapy team, supporting service users in a low to medium secure inpatient setting.

You will work alongside qualified occupational therapists, planning and delivering 1:1 or group activities, promoting recovery, life skills, independence and safe engagement in daily life within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• NVQ level 3 or above in a relevant subject.
• Demonstrates understanding of how mental health issues can affect people.
• Experience of working as part of a team and under your own initiative.
• IT skills basic keyboard and word processing.
• Good organisational skills and time management ability.
• Flexible and adaptable to change.
• A range of practical occupational skills (e.g., cooking, craft, home management, gardening, IT, community access, leisure).
• Knowledge and understanding of the role of Occupational therapists.
• Experience working with people who experience challenges to their occupational performance.

Responsibilities

• Work in a collaborative and cooperative manner with service users, families/carers and other health and social care professionals.
• Assist in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment beneficial to service users, relatives, carers and others.
• Provide accurate and relevant feedback to registered staff; participate in team discussions and meetings.
• Develop a therapeutic relationship with service users to maximise their interest and participation in therapeutic activity.
• Organise day-to-day activities for groups and individual therapy programmes including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation under supervision.
• Play a part in preparation of risk assessments; CPA/SAP.
• Communicate effectively and work with people to help them achieve their goals.
• Work within a large welcoming team including Occupational Therapists, OT Support Workers, Education and Active Life.
