Job summary

Haydale Care Home is seeking a Chef to join our catering team, crafting daily meals for Residents, Staff and Visitors. This 20-hour per week role offers a friendly, relaxed kitchen environment and opportunities to contribute to event menus.

You’ll manage day-to-day kitchen operations, maintain high hygiene standards and help design menus for special events, with a strong focus on quality and resident satisfaction. A great work-life balance awaits.

Qualifications

• GCSE or equivalent English
• City & Guilds 706/1 and 2 (or equivalent) Basic Food Preparation Cooking
• Basic Food Hygiene (essential)
• Intermediate Food Hygiene (desirable)
• Previous experience in a similar environment
• Menu planning, costing, ordering, stock control and budget experience

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations.
• Maintain food storage procedures and stock rotation.
• Plan, prepare and cook meals to a high standard, accommodating dietary requests.
• Serve Residents, Staff and Visitors professionally.
• Prepare foods for events.
• Participate in food costings and cost controls.
• Adhere to Safer Food Better Business standards and record keeping.
• Follow Food Hygiene Regulations and safety procedures.
• Take full shift responsibility for catering operations.
• Assist in creating new menus.
• File HACCP paperwork (fridge temps, temperature logs, cleaning schedules).
