Job description

A Future with purpose

At Arup, we’re dedicated to sustainable development and to doing socially useful work that has meaning. Our purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach have set us apart for over 75 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

We solve the world's most complex problems and deliver what seems impossible. We explore challenges with curiosity and creativity—using technology, imagination, and rigor to deliver remarkable outcomes.

Architecture has been an integral part of Arup for over 50 years. Our reputation was built on designing buildings that are at the forefront of innovation, sustainability, and people-centered design. As part of the global firm of 16,000 designers, planners, engineers, consultants, and technical experts in more than 90 offices worldwide, we have unrivaled access to the skills and expertise needed to create ‘Total Architecture'. We have architectural practices across the UK, Europe, the Americas, Australasia, and East Asia, and we are growing.

The Opportunity

We are looking for individuals who wish to join our community of Architects in a mission to Shape a Better World. We continue to design buildings that are simple, purposeful, efficient, and beautiful—technologically advanced and sensitive to environmental and human needs, aligned with Ove Arup's vision for ‘Total Architecture'. Our projects span sectors such as transport, sport, science and industry, commercial buildings, and social infrastructure. We collaborate closely with Arup's extensive range of engineers and specialists to deliver the most beneficial outcomes for clients, society, and the planet.

We offer our staff opportunities for short or long-term assignments in different regions, with research central to our culture. Arup University and our Foresight and Innovation team enable us to differentiate our services and encourage individuals to pursue their passions. Our teams have access to state-of-the-art digital tools, and we support flexible working arrangements, including up to 3 days of remote work weekly. We are committed to delivering high-quality services and championing wellbeing for all team members.

You will join a vibrant, diverse, multidisciplinary office. Working directly with the Architecture Team, you will provide design support throughout all project stages in various multidisciplinary projects within the scope of 'Total Architecture'.

Please note this is a 12-month fixed-term contract, extendable by mutual agreement. Applicants must have graduated with a bachelor’s degree to be considered. Opportunities for short or long-term assignments beyond this duration are unlikely for a 1-year fixed term.

Is this role right for you?

We are seeking candidates with the following skills, qualifications, and attributes:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture with RIBA Part 1 accreditation
  • Design flair with both creative and analytical skills, proficiency in 3D thinking and hand drawing, and knowledge of relevant design and visualization software
  • Highly motivated, proactive, with a passion for learning in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment; excellent communication, curiosity, collaboration, conceptual thinking, and organizational skills
  • Interest in sustainability and climate change resilience

This role is based in London, and we will consider only London-based applications.

We value curiosity and innovation. Our strength lies in respecting, sharing, and connecting diverse experiences, perspectives, and ideas. At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective that encourages individuality. Share your knowledge and ideas, inspire others, and strive to deliver excellent client services—if this resonates with you, we want to hear from you.

You should be available to start in September 2025.

To be considered, please upload your sample portfolio in PDF format (max 20MB) within the 'supporting documents' section of your application, using image compression and vector drawings where possible.

What we offer you

At Arup, we prioritize your success and growth.

We provide an attractive total reward package, including competitive pay, benefits supporting health and wellbeing, learning opportunities, and impactful work. As a member-owned company, we operate in trust, giving us the freedom and responsibility to set our own direction and choose meaningful work. Profit sharing is part of our reward system, allowing permanent members to share in our collective success.

Our benefits include private medical insurance, life assurance, accident insurance, income protection, and adaptable benefits to support your overall wellbeing and personal needs.
