Job summary

Derby City Council is seeking a Parks and Green Spaces Group Manager to lead Derby's network of parks, nature areas and community spaces. You will drive improvements, ensure safety and accessibility, and shape the city’s green infrastructure in line with net-zero and healthier communities.

You will lead a diverse team, manage budgets and contracts, and work with residents and partners to deliver impactful projects within Climate & Active Environments.

Qualifications

• Substantial leadership experience in public realm services or parks and green spaces.
• Experience managing varied sites and large contracts with budgets.
• Strong financial management to ensure value for money.
• Commitment to equality, diversity, inclusion and safety.
• Understanding of climate goals, nature recovery and public health.

Responsibilities

• Lead management of parks, open spaces, play areas and related grounds across the city.
• Plan development and improvements supporting wildlife and climate resilience.
• Manage significant budgets, contracts and resources for value-for-money services.
• Ensure parks are safe, welcoming and accessible for all communities.
• Collaborate with residents, groups and partners to deliver improvements.
• Provide clear leadership to a large workforce with safety and wellbeing focus.
• Oversee health and safety and emergency planning for parks and green spaces.
