Job summary

Maldon District Council, in partnership with Essex Shared Services, invites applications for a full-time Parks and Countryside Officer (Level 2). The role covers ground care across 25 parks, with weekend and on-call duties and vehicle/machinery operation up to 3.5T.

The team focuses on high standards of grounds maintenance, seasonal planting, and sport pitches. A full UK driving licence and relevant certificates are essential; NVQ2 in horticulture is preferred. Competitive benefits apply.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence and access to own transport to travel to work.
• Competency certificates in PA1/PA6 spraying, brushcutter, chainsaw, ride-on mower; training can be provided.
• NVQ level 2 in horticulture is desirable for the role.
• Experience with plant machinery maintenance is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Maintain grounds across 25 parks and open spaces, including Promenade Park and Riverside Park.
• Undertake weekend/bank holiday duties on a rota and provide out-of-hours cover for events or emergencies.
• Carry out grass cutting, litter collection, hedge trimming, bed maintenance, and sports pitch marking.
• Perform basic vehicle and equipment maintenance and operate machinery up to 3.5T.
• Work in accordance with health and safety guidelines and company procedures.
