Job summary

North Yorkshire Council is seeking a Grounds Maintenance Operative to deliver high-quality outdoor services across North Yorkshire. The role covers parks, open spaces, highways verges and other public environments, working with a dedicated team to maintain grounds safely and to a high standard.

You will handle grass cutting, hedge maintenance, weed control, planting, litter clearance, and machinery upkeep while adhering to health and safety procedures and collaborating with colleagues as needed.

Qualifications

• Full UK driving licence with no significant endorsements.
• Experience of grounds maintenance or similar outdoor work.
• Ability to operate grounds maintenance equipment safely and effectively.

• Grass cutting using pedestrian and ride-on mowers.
• Strimming, edging, hedge cutting, and shrub maintenance.
• Weed control and vegetation management.
• Planting and general horticultural duties.
• Litter picking and site clearance.
• Routine inspection, cleaning, and maintenance of machinery and equipment.
• Ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety procedures.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the External Works & Contracts Team as a Grounds Maintenance Operative. We are looking for a hardworking, reliable, and motivated individual to help deliver high-quality grounds maintenance services across a range of sites and public spaces throughout North Yorkshire.

This is a varied outdoor role involving the maintenance of parks, open spaces, landscaped areas, highways verges, and other public environments. The successful candidate will work as part of a dedicated team to ensure grounds are maintained safely, efficiently, and to a consistently high standard.
